iPad Top Applications

I have had my iPad since it was released here in Canada in June and this is my list of applications that have/make the iPad a great tool.

Productivity/Utility

  • Evernote - Free - From Evernote Corp. turns your iPad into a note taking machine, and once you have an account setup, you can access your notes on your desktop/laptop/iPad. Free accounts are limited to 40 MB a month, I have yet to ever exceed 5 MB in a month but if you are into attachments, the $45/year for a premium account is well worth the price.
  • iAnnotate PDF - $9.99 - From Aji LLC lets you take PDF documents, read them, highlight, make notes, and much more. Annotated PDF's can be emailed out with all of your annotations included and visible in the major PDF readers.
  • Dropbox - Free - From Dropbox allows you to access all the files that exist in your Dropbox, if you don't have a Dropbox account, get one here (do it now, you will not be sorry) and we both get an extra 250 MB.
  • Filer (Formerly Downloader) - $3.99 - From The Hammock District lets you download files from web sites to your iPad, great for grabbing PDF's and other files from web pages, something that should be built in, but is not, worth every cent!
  • iBooks - Free - From Apple is a capable reader for many formats of eBooks and PDF's, the iBooks store is no where near the depth of Amazon's eBooks but i use this for a more general reader.
  • PCalc - $9.99 - From TLA Systems, I know what you are thinking, $10 for a calculator?! Yes it is more than any other calculator application and you can buy real ones for cheaper, but this calculator can do just about anything a full scientific calculator can do. Unit conversion, octal, hex, and binary. For the price, this is the absolute best calculator application.
  • Kindle - Free - From Amazon gives you access to all of the eBooks you may already own a long with the plethora of title available via Amazon's eBook store.

Social/Gaming

  • Osfoora HD - $3.99 - From Said Marouf is by far the best Twitter client for the iPad. Works in both portrait and landscape mode, clean simple interface, multiple account support, and much more. If you tweet, this is the tool for you.
  • Flipboard - Free - From Flipboard is a really awesome reader application, basically takes your information (Facebook wall, Twitter stream, etc.) and displays it looking like a newspaper/glossy magazine. It is hard to describe, but once you use it you will get it.
  • Plants vs. Zombies HD - $9.99 - From PopCap Games is the quintessential tower defense game scaled up for the iPad. WARNING: Highly Addictive.
  • Google Earth - Free - From Google is a great addition to the iPad, when you have connectivity you have full access to anywhere on the Earth.
  • PS Express - [price] - From Adobe is not "PhotoShop" per se, but it is a capable image editor for the iPad. You can crop, rotate, scale, blur, sharpen, and much more to a picture.
  • We Rule - Free - From ngmoco is an addictive social game, you build your kingdom, visit your friend kingdom, expand your lands. This was good on the iPhone but it is way better on the iPad.
  • GodFinger - Free - From ngmoco is another social game that first appeared on the iPhone and has been scaled up to the iPad. More usable on the iPad.

Those are the application that i use the most, there are a bunch of others that I have tried, but this list are the ones i use all the time.
